A PRINT SALE FUNDRAISER
IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
11 May – 25 May 2020
The first edition of Pictures for Purpose (11 May – 25 May 2020) responded to the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, collaborating with 36 artists based in the Netherlands. The proceeds from each print sold were shared between the Dutch Food Bank and, at their discretion, the participating artists – who themselves had been deprived of valuable streams of income. With this structure, we sought to avoid relying solely on the generosity of the artists, whilst also offering support to those in acute need in the Netherlands. We could never have expected to raise over €200.000 in just two short weeks.
Pictures for Purpose is a foundation that strives to support urgent causes through the medium of photography. We collaborate with international artists and organizations, culminating in a series of print sale fundraisers and exhibitions.

Having organised a number of print sales to raise funds for several pressing causes, we realise that this particular context – where the distribution of aid to those who desperately need it has effectively been halted – calls for a different approach. Where financial support falls short, we must offer solidarity – by raising our voices collectively, contacting our political representatives, and petitioning for an immediate ceasefire.
We will return to the question of how we can support humanitarian organisations operating in Palestine at a later stage, when we hope that new avenues to offer effective help might have come into clearer focus. In the meantime, we urge you to use your voice, demand action, read and learn.
